Superfood Vanilla Latte Recipe - The Herbal Spoon (2024)

I’m not always ready for breakfast first thing in the morning, but I do like my coffee. This healthy vanilla latte recipe is my version of the popular bulletproof coffee. It’s warm and filling, and you can even make it iced if you prefer.

A Better Vanilla Latte Recipe

Some promises are too good to be true. Like, “Send us $200 and we’ll send you a million dollars, a car, and a vacation to Tahiti. Trust me, I may sound Jamaican, but I work for the New York Lottery.” Unfortunately, that one is going around.

So is, “Trust us, rub these chemicals on your face twice a day and you’ll look like Athena, or at least Angelina Jolie.” There’s a much better way to get healthy skin, and it starts from the inside out.

The collagen molecules in skincare products are too large to penetrate into the skin and have much of an effect on wrinkles. Many of those creams are full of carcinogens and synthetic chemicals too. So instead of getting rid of wrinkles, it’s probably causing cancer.

But what if your morning cup of coffee could fight wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks, and scars, relieve joint pain, remineralize your teeth, balance your hormones, aid digestion, boost metabolism to burn fat, and strengthen hair and nails?

This is my favorite way to make coffee at home. It tastes delicious and has that thick, creamy foam on top that sticks to your lip. This recipe makes enough for two large mugs (or one mom-sized coffee).

How Do You Make a Vanilla Latte?

There are so many different ways to make one. Some are tastier than others, and some options are healthier. I prefer using a French press but if you have an espresso machine (lucky you!) then that will work beautifully. If you’re using a large, drip pot of coffee, then you’ll want to use twice the amount of coffee grounds as usual. Basically, you want a strong brew for a vanilla latte recipe.

The next step is to add milk and something to sweeten it with. We’re not going to stop there though. This vanilla latte recipe features coconut oil for healthy fats and gelatin for stronger hair and nails and glowing skin.

How Much Coffee is In a Vanilla Latte Recipe?

It depends on your preferences and serving size. For a 16 oz vanilla latte, I use about 2 TBSP of ground coffee in my French press. If there’s not enough coffee in the finished product it tastes like watery coffee milk. Yuck.

What’s in a Starbucks Vanilla Latte?

Starbucks is one of the most popular coffee chains out there and they serve over a million customers a day. While their drinks can be addictive, thanks to the flavors and sugar, it’s not the healthiest (or cheapest) option. Here are the ingredients in a Starbucks vanilla latte:

Ingredients: Milk, brewed espresso, vanilla syrup (sugar, water, natural flavors, potassium sorbate, citric acid).

What are “natural flavors”? Who knows. And they also have an impressive 35 grams of processed sugar in their large size. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t drink small coffees. There aren’t a lot of weird ingredients, but I know I can make something healthier, cheaper, and just as tasty at home.

What’s a Vanilla Latte Made of?

The basic recipe is coffee, milk, vanilla extract, and sugar. Here I’m making my vanilla latte recipe with superfood ingredients and no refined sugars. I like raw honey in mine, but for a sugar-free version, liquid stevia is my next favorite option.

High-quality coffee is also a must here. Most grocery store brands are not only contaminated with pesticides but the beans can be burnt or contain mycotoxins. All of this affects the taste and health of the coffee. At the very least I buy whole, organic coffee beans and grind them in small batches.

Hands down my favorite brand is Purity Coffee. It’s so smooth and flavorful and it’s certified pesticide, mycotoxin, and mold free. Purity Coffee is also higher in antioxidants than many other brands.

I used to use raw milk in my vanilla lattes, but I haven’t had reliable access to it lately so I’ll often use oat milk. Almost any milk will work here, but I’d avoid soy and rice milk.

You may not get a million dollars from a foreign telemarketer, but you can certainly have a healthier body inside and out with this vanilla latte recipe.
